New Chamber business! PAINT IT

We have a new 2014 Hueytown Area Chamber of Commerce member!  Please congratulate Tamara Thomas and friends on their store opened in downtown Hueytown:  Paint It!

The Paint It  mission is to provide high quality art instruction for everyone from the novice to the experienced artist.    Paint It will conduct art instruction classes for individuals and groups with all art supplies included.   Instruction will also be provided on furniture painting using the Alabama Slap Paint.   Paint It's  studio will be open during the week on:   Wednesday , Friday and Saturday.   Day classes begin at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm, evening classes per the site schedule.

2014 Miss Hueytown pageant - February 22nd

Ready for a beauty pageant?  Then plan to take part in the 2014 Miss Hueytown beauty pageant.  It will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at the former Hueytown High School gymnasium.

The Miss Hueytown pageant is a no glitz, age appropriate attire pageant.  Girls ages 5  to 18 years old are eligible to participate in the Miss Hueytown pageant.  Pageant Registration is $40 and $10 for submission to the Miss Photogenic category.   Awards will be provided to the Queens and their courts of each age category.  Additionally our  2014 Miss Hueytown (16-18) will receive a $500 scholarship. Contestants do not have to be Hueytown citizens to compete.

The date for the Hueytown Race is: SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2014!

Hueytown's 10K, 5K Race/Walk and Kid's Fun Run will be Saturday, May 10, 2014.  Our race is one of the few area certified 10K races.  Please remember - you don't have to race - walking is great too!

Each 10K and 5K race participant will receive a technical dry-fit shirt and goodie bag with paid registration!  Prizes will be provided to each race category winner.  There will also be door prizes provided at the end of the race.  

Early Race Registration is $ 20. You can register through ACTIVE.COM  or by contacting Rebecca at the Chamber for an application.  You have plenty of time to get ready for the race/walk so get to steppin'!

Are you a Teen interested in creating a video game and learning new technologies? Free Workshop - Univ of Alabama - Saturday, Jan 11 from 10 am to 12 noon


The Alabama Museum of Natural History's GeoTech Lab at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa is hosting a series of free workshops involving video gaming and other related technologies  for students in grades 8 through 12. 

The first workshop will be on GameMaker and is scheduled for this Saturday, January 11th.  Time:  10 am - 12 noon.   Each participant will learn GameMaker and will have a game creation of their own by the end of the day's lab.  Although the workshop is free, you will need to bring your own lunch.

     Sketch-Up to create  3-D printed objects (Jan 25th)
     Photoshop & Illustrator (Feb 15th)
     OfficeSuite and Other programs (March 1st)  and
     Geocaching and Story Maps (March 15th)
