Thankfully the weather cleared and the 2013 Hueytown Christmas Parade completed on Saturday!   The Chamber is very grateful to the parade participants who spent their time to prepare their entries and  'stayed the course' to participate in the parade.

Don't forget to attend Hueytown's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.  It will be held this Friday,  Dec 13th.  This is a free, citywide event.   Please join us for hot chocolate, terrific music and the opening of our holiday season.   Santa has scheduled us in during his busy season for free photos and to take everyone's Wish! 

Pancakes at Pleasant Ridge and a Parade! Perfection! Saturday, December 14th, 7 am - 9:30 am

Reminder:   Park at Pleasant Ridge and get Pancakes pre-Parade!  

On Saturday, 12/14/13,  park at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and eat a pancake breakfast before the Hueytown Christmas Parade.  You will get a PLATE FULL of pancakes, bacon, biscuits along with juice and coffee for $ 5.  The proceeds from the breakfast will go to the Youth's activities. 

The annual Pancake breakfast is held in the Fellowship Hall at Pleasant Ridge.  The breakfast time is 7 am to 9:30 am.  This gives you plenty of time to park and stake out your parade spot!   Pleasant Ridge is a prime parking location for the viewing the parade.   If you aren't able to stay for breakfast, the Youth will appreciate a donation.

2013 Parade Participant Information

For  2013 Hueytown Christmas Parade participants:

• Lineup numbers and location information have been provided to the person who submitted the parade entry.  If you are in the parade but not the person who submitted the parade entry, please contact your entry point of contact for your line up number and location.
• IMPORTANT:  In order for the Parade Director and Judges to view your entry, and the Master of Ceremonies to read the correct description for your entry, your Parade entry number must be written on a full size paper/card (8.5 x 11) and placed on the left side of the windshield.
• Entry check-in will be at the Old Chamber Office located at Gilmore Stadium.  There is no office phone available at the entry check-in location. 
• Line up times: 

          - 18 wheelers Floats:   7 am-7:30 am
          - Floats:   8 am - 8:30 am
          - Vehicles/Walkers:   8:30 am
          - Equestrian:    may begin to unload at 8:30 am at pre-identified horse location. 
                                    be at their designated loading/unloading spot no later than 9 am.
                                    All waivers/licenses must be signed prior to lineup or horses/riders
                                    will not be allowed into the parade.

NOTE:   Line up lists have been posted at both the old Chamber location (formerly at Gilmore Stadium) and the new Chamber office (City Hall Annex - next door to Hueytown City Hall)

Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony - rescheduled to Friday, Dec 13th @ 7 pm

Due to inclement weather, the Hueytown Area Chamber and City Christmas tree lighting was rescheduled.  It will now be held Friday, December 13th.  The program will start at 7 pm.  Plan for hot chocolate, Santa and other surprises!

Zumba at Baptist Health Center (BHC)-Hueytown.... starting January 7th, 2014

To help us with our New Year's weight management resolutions, BHC-Hueytown (Baptist Health Center) will begin offering Zumba exercise classes at their location in Hueytown.  BHC-Hueytown is part of the Baptist Health Center medical clinic network in Central Alabama.

The Zumba classes will begin Tuesday, January 7, 2014, time 5:30 pm.   The January 7th introductory class will only be one dollar ($1).  The following classes will be five dollars ($5) each.   So bring a dollar and a friend on Tuesday, Jan 7th!

Let the BHC team help you with your and your family's health needs.  At their office in Hueytown they are able to diagnose and treat injuries, infections, ongoing health issues. The medical staff at BHC is also available to work with behavioral, functional issues and other of life's stresses.

Grand Marshall of Hueytown's Christmas Parade: Gene Norman, Chief Meteorologist - CBS 42

The Grand Marshall of the 2013 Hueytown Christmas Parade is Gene Norman, Chief Meteorologist - CBS 42.   The Grand Marshall will be followed in the parade by our 2013 Miss Hueytown - Morgan Lafoy. 

Mr Norman joined the CBS 42 staff  as Chief Meteorologist in April 2013. Previously he was with CBS affiliates in Houston and Atlanta.  You can see Mr Norman daily on the 5, 6 and 10 pm newscasts.

Hueytown High School Baseball team selling boxes of Oranges and Grapefruit through November 1st

Just in time for the holidays!   Help the Hueytown High School baseball team by purchasing a box or two (or three) of fruit.  They are selling boxes of oranges and grapefruit to raise funds for the team.  Each box is $18.  Payment is due by November 1st and delivery will be November 20th.  To place your order please contact the HHS school office (205-379-4150) or one of the baseball coaches.

The Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) frequently hosts New Business Workshops throughout the state. Participants receive a brief, but comprehensive overview of Alabama taxes that enable a business to begin operating with a clearer understanding of its tax obligations.  The workshops are held twice on each scheduled date. Businesses and groups in the Hueytown Area - join the Hueytown Area Chamber of Commerce in celebrating Homecoming week in Hueytown.  Participate in our "Paint the Town Purple Challenge" and join in the Hueytown High School Homecoming Parade!  Homecoming week is Sept 23-27, 2013.  Hueytown's Homecoming game will be against the Pleasant Grove Spartans on Friday night, Sept 27th at the new Hueytown High School Stadium, 15th Street Road in Hueytown.

Do you need to be a Chamber member to participate?  No.... Hueytown's 10K / 5k Race & Walk: Scheduled for January 18, 2014

In order to accommodate various activities in the area, the Hueytown 10K / 5K Race and Walk has moved from October to January 2014.   Date:  January 18.  This will give you plenty of time to get in running or walking shape!  Early registration will open in late October.

We have one of the few area 10K runs and it is USATF certified!  You do not have to do the 10K and you don't have to run.    For those that prefer to walk and want to do less than a 10K,  come on and join us. 

The 5K is approximately 3 miles.  We have a large group of walkers each year that participate in the 5K portion.  We also have a Fun Run for the kids directly following the end of the race.  ALL 10K/5K race participants (runners and walkers) receive a technical dry-fit shirt!  Winners of each category will receive an award.  Door prizes will also be awarded throughout the event. 

If you have a team or are in a club, you can participate as a group!  If you want to test just yourself - great too! Bring your friends, family, dress in your favorite team colors, wear a funny hat, whatever gets you to make it through!
So get your feet moving!

Don't forget! Hueytown's 1st Annual 'Paws in the Park' Dog Festival - Saturday, Sept 7th!

Hueytown's 1st 'Paws in the Park' Dog Festival is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 7th. Time: 10 am - 5 pm (weather permitting).   Location: Gilmore Stadium Park, corner of Allison Bonnett Memorial Drive & High School Road.  

This is a family event and everyone is invited - even if you don't have a dog!   There will be plenty for all to enjoy! 

The festival includes vendors for both people and pets, food along with a kids area.   Bring your dog and enter one or all of our contests:   Best Costume, Best Trick, Cutest, Looks most like Owner, Most Unusual Mix, along with People's Choice.

See several demonstrations:   Obedience, Lure Coursing, Flyball, K-9 nose work and Grooming.

Enjoy educational sessions covering breed specific information, doggie daycare, rescue groups, etc.

Reminder:   All dogs to be leashed and vaccinated. Admission is free, $1 entrance fee per contest event, registration at the Chamber booth.

Jet Pep/ WABM Channel 68 - Scholar Athlete: Grayson Wright - Hueytown High School

Congratulations to Grayson Wright, Jet Pep's Scholar Athlete of the week!   The Jet Pep Athlete of the Week is selected from the teams playing on WABM Channel 68's " Thursday Night Lights". 

Grayson is a Senior at Hueytown High School and a 3 time Letterman for the football team.  Along with maintaining a perfect GPA, Grayson has been active in the National Honor Society, the Beta Club and the Boy Scouts.

Hueytown's Fan Day - Saturday, August 17

Hueytown will hold its Fan Day on Saturday, August 17th at the new Hueytown High School stadium.  Admission is $3 for the day.

Fan Day is  not limited to students or parents with children in the Hueytown schools.  Fan Day is a community wide event and all are requested to attend.  So bring your family, your friends, greet Gopher alumni and have a wonderful Saturday night in Hueytown!

1st Annual "Paws in the Park" - September 7th - Gilmore Vines Stadium

Mark your calendar!    On September 7  the Hueytown Area Chamber of Commerce will host the Chamber's 1st Annual "Paws in the Park".  This will be a fun day in the park for everyone - whether or not you own a dog!  What are we  planning?   There will be costume contests, talent demonstrations, dog show competition and more.

Hueytown Area Schools Registration information: 2013-2014

It may be Summer but the start of school will be here shortly. The first day of school will be Monday, August 19th.  In order to be ready for the first day of school all students will need to be registered with their residency verified. 

Jefferson County Schools - Residence Verification Requirements are:

• Proof of residence:  includes items as a mortgage or bona fide lease in the name of the parent or legal custodian and signed by the lessee and lessor
• Two (2)  current utility bills (cell phones are not acceptable utilities) in the name of the parent or legal custodian at that address .  Bills with 'Final Notice' and/or 'Disconnect' are not accepted
• Guardian's Drivers License
• Proof of legal custody if you are not the parent and proof of custody in the case of a divorce.  (Notarized statements are not accepted.)
• A current Blue immunization form for the student from a physician or the health department
• A social security card for the student in the student’s name
• Student's birth certificate 
• The withdrawal form with grades and a current transcript (last current report card) from the previous school.  The complete address of the previous school must be included in order for us to requests records from that school.
• A signed certificate of residency
