So remember your history and celebrate National Donut (Doughnut) Day at Daylight Donuts in Hueytown. Enjoy a bag of doughnut holes, maybe an apple fritter or two, just don't forget to pick up a dozen glazed or chocolate covered doughnuts! If you are in at lunch don't forget their sausage roll.

Memorial Day and Moment of Remembrance: Monday, May 25, 2015
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day and developed to honor the Civil War dead, is a day of remembrance for all those who have died in service of the United States of America.
In 1868, Maj. Gen. John A. Logan of the veterans group - Grand Army of the Republic, declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. Gen. Logan’s order for his posts to decorate graves in 1868 “with the choicest flowers of springtime” urged: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. ... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic."
In 1971 Congress declared Memorial Day as the last Monday in May and to honor all those that died in all American wars and defending freedom.
To ensure the sacrifices of America ’s fallen heroes are never forgotten, in December 2000, the U.S. Congress passed and the president signed into law “The National Moment of Remembrance Act,” P.L. 106-579, creating the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance.
The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.
God Bless America!

Its the start of a new year - let's help the schools by taking a school calendar survey and attending CARE meetings
Let's get 2015 started on the right track - become involved with the Area schools. You do not need to have a child in school to be concerned with the success of our schools and participate in school related activities. School scores impact home prices and sales, business recruitment to our area, jobs and families.
What can you do? You can start in January with two things that do not take a lot of time and effort: 1) participate in a very short school survey regarding the 2016-2017 school calendar and 2) attend the first CARE meeting of 2015.
What is CARE? CARE is the acronym for 'Citizens Advocating a Return for Excellence' for our schools. The CARE meetings are for parents and others interested in our schools. They allow you to voice your concerns, comments, and/or ask questions. So attend the Thursday, January 15th CARE meeting. Start time is 6:30 pm and will be held at the Hueytown Elementary School Cafeteria.
