With the earthquakes and floods recently reported, it makes one think of our own disaster preparations - both for our home and our business. Since we are in Tornado Season and coming upon Hurricane Season, its time to dust off our emergency preparations. If you haven't prepared in the past, it is something to consider for this season.
Don't really know where to start? Think about storage of important papers and being self sufficient for up to 3 days (72 hours). There are plenty of online sites to help you think through your needs.
The State of Alabama Emergency Management Agency site contains a wealth of information to help you develop a plan and provide direction. Also, see the Department of Homeland Security's site: Ready America. The FEMA site also provides detailed disaster preparation information. And lastly, but certainly not the least, is disaster prepardness information from SCORE (source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs). SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
Keep in mind, you don't need to go to a great expense or buy special kits and items. All items and services you need to make preparations are available locally from our Hueytown Area Chamber of Commerce members!
See Allen Antonio of Hueytown Hardware for materials/boxes, any of our financial members to obtain a safety deposit box to hold your important papers and keepsakes (Alabama Telco, 1st Federal, 1st Financial Bank, Peoples Bank), food and water supplies (Food Giant, Publix) along with medical and other everyday supplies (Pharmacy Express, Weldon's Pharmacy).
