Important Notice from Hueytown Quarterback Club & the JeffCo Board of Education Athletic Director

Parents and Friends of the Hueytown High School Program:  On June 10th the Hueytown Quarterback Club received this notification from the Jefferson County Board of Education.  Please let your family, friends and businesses you frequent in Hueytown know about this problem:

From Jefferson County Board of Education Athletic Director:

We have discovered a company soliciting local businesses to purchase ads on a poster displaying the varsity football schedule from several of our schools. The company contacts these businesses and represents themselves as being from the school. Needless to say, our schools knew nothing about this program. I have asked our attorneys to contact the business in question regarding this matter.

I believe it is of utmost importance that we do all we can to notify local businesses that the schools are not affiliated in any way with this company, and any funds they spend on this will not benefit our schools, programs, or students.

The Hueytown Quarterback Club is currently selling ads for the 2013 football program.  Our members and players are selling these ads.  The QBC does not use external companies to solicit funds for our organization.  We use our membership and football players.

Thank You,
Hueytown Quarterback Club

Teen Driving Classes this summer through AAA Alabama....

Here is another great summer opportunity for your teens...

Per Clay Ingram, AAA Alabama spokesman,  AAA Alabama is offering two teen defensive driving classes this summer.  The first will be on June 13 and the second will be on July 25.

Each class is only an eight-hour, one-day class. Although instruction doesn't include actual driving it is designed as a supplement for teen driver training.

The class covers general driving information while focusing on teen-specific issues such as nighttime driving limitations, distracted driving and the impacts of alcohol and drugs.

The classes  will be held at AAA Alabama's state headquarters, 2400 Acton Road. The course costs $25 for AAA members, $30 for non-members and requires advanced registration.

Participants can register for the teen driving class at www.aaa.com or by calling AAA Alabama at (205) 444-8885.

Questions?  Please contact Clay Ingram, AAA Alabama.   Phone:    (205) 444-8885

"IT CAN WAIT" .... a Don't Text & Drive Campaign

Did you know the "100 Deadliest Days" for teen drivers are during  the summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day?  This is from a recent AAA study.  In an effort to reduce accidents,  the major communications companies (Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint,  and T-Mobile)  along with other business and community organizations  launched a don't text and drive campaign entitled:   "It Can Wait"

Through the IT CAN WAIT website,  everyone is encouraged to sign an online pledge to not text and drive.  Site visitors can see and share stories of why they're taking the pledge.

The site  includes an online texting while driving simulator which works with your smartphone.  But only test yourself when not driving!

Need help for you or your teen to not text and drive?  For AT&T customers there is a FREE App to help curb the urge to text and drive:   AT&T DriveMode     Verizon also provides a FREE app:  SafelyGO

DriveMode and SafelyGo  assist you with distraction free driving.  They allow you to temporarily disable some of the features of your mobile device so you stay focused on the road.  You can set-up auto-replies to texts, emails and wireless phone calls to let people know you're on the road and will get back to them.  Even while these apps are in use, you will always have the ability to call 911.

So visit the IT CAN WAIT website - download the apps, take the pledge......really, nothing is that important and worth the risk....
