Congratulations are in order for Gopher Baseball and Softball !
Excellence in Hueytown doesn't take a break! While many were on the beach during spring break, our Gophers were busy at out of town tournaments bringing home wins.
Our Baseball team toppled Brookwood to clinch the Nike Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Al. And our Softball team didn't leave empty handed either! They placed 3rd in the 2011 Gulf Coast Classic I Softball Tournament held in Orange Beach, Al. They competed against a field of 60 teams from Alabama/Tennessee/Mississippi to place in the 2011 Gulf Coast Classic Softball Tournament.
The baseball win was the second time in a week that our Gophers won a tournament with a no hitter. Senior left-hander Jason Carrell pitched a no-hitter to lead Hueytown to the Nike Gulf Coast Classic title. And on March 12 Alex Scott and Brent Reeves combined their pitching skills to beat Mortimer Jordan 8-0 in the championship game of the Jefferson County Tournament. RBC Bank's 'Tribute to Teachers'
RBC Bank® is a fantastic example of the quality of the members in the Hueytown Area Chamber of Commerce and our community. RBC Bank® has a long history of investing in excellence in education through corporate giving, in-kind donations and individual volunteerism. It’s because of this history – along with a core belief that excellence in education can’t really exist without the priceless contribution of our most dedicated teachers – that they’ve created an investment of their own. It’s called Tribute to Teachers - a regional awards program that recognizes the work and ‘never quit’ attitude of our communities’ best educators.
Since the program’s inception in 2004, Tribute to Teachers has awarded more than $160,000 in cash and prizes to hundreds of educators across the Southeast, allowing them to add invaluable learning tools and resources to their classrooms.
