Excellence in Hueytown doesn't take a break! While many were on the beach during spring break, our Gophers were busy at out of town tournaments bringing home wins. Our Baseball team toppled Brookwood to clinch the Nike Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores, Al. And our Softball team didn't leave empty handed either! They placed 3rd in the 2011 Gulf Coast Classic I Softball Tournament held in Orange Beach, Al. They competed against a field of 60 teams from Alabama/Tennessee/Mississippi to place in the 2011 Gulf Coast Classic Softball Tournament.
The baseball win was the second time in a week that our Gophers won a tournament with a no hitter. Senior left-hander Jason Carrell pitched a no-hitter to lead Hueytown to the Nike Gulf Coast Classic title. And on March 12 Alex Scott and Brent Reeves combined their pitching skills to beat Mortimer Jordan 8-0 in the championship game of the Jefferson County Tournament.
